Painting over Photo

Sunday, February 26, 2006

Today, I tried something with a different look while still using an old photo. I have backgrounds of walls that are a good foundation and then use several blending modes on the same picture.
Repetition of the same photo but with different looks does create a bond.

Cloned Fabrics Fashion Doll

Changing Fabrics

Today I was looking at some current fashion shows and decided this dress would work on a child with some alterations. I've been interested in creating fashions for children over the years, so it is fun to try out ideas here.

Kids and sweets! Can't go wrong there. I am having fun with trying out various effects in Photoshop by using filters to simulate watercolor or cutouts.

Imagination

Cupcake Land

I am back to my original idea for this month which is to create these fantasy pictures using sweets as a theme. Here we have a picture I took at Esalen last summer and I've transformed it into a place where a group of children in costume are posing among the cupcakes. The lady on the right is their teacher and director for this pagent.

I watched the big yellow moon rise over the trees and I am inspired to create a tribute to the never ending fascination with a full moon.

Faded Images

I tried something different today. I like working with images of old actresses and also wanted to try out some various patterns, so this is the result.

Melancholy

This group was originally on a hill in Kansas, but I moved them to NewYork. I like the colors of the picture and felt the people didn't need any extra colors. they fit in as they are and seem to be in a somber mood in spite of their costumes.

This is a picture I did earlier, but I want to add it to my Blog because I like it so much. Some things just work out so well and this is one of them.

I am continuing my series of fantasy. This is a garden visited by magical charcters.

Thursday, February 02, 2006

This drawing was done of an actress from an old photo. I am attracted to pictures of the theatre and dance from the early 1900's. Much of my art does reflect this theme.

Beautiful Fairy

I like to experiment with various techniques. For this work, I took a lovely face from a old photo and used pieces from some beautiful silk to make her dress, but it needed to be smoothed down, so I ended up smudging and drawing over the material. I added pattern fill for the background and found some wings to give her more of a fantasy feeling.

This scene is in our front yard! we often have groups of people come to rent cottages in the summer. We see some strange things, but never boys in pink or Heidi. This is the fun of creating your own neighbors.

Fantasy Art for the month of February

I am a member of the group called Daily Devotions365 and we have agreed to post some art work everyday this year. I have finished one month already and since we are starting a new month, I will open a Blog. The main reason will be to show my art.
I am excited about creating fantasy pictures with landscapes and children in costume. Who knows what may develop. Some will probably be more successful than others, but that is OK too as art is exploration of ideas and if one never makes the attempt, you do not learn. The thing is, use what works and build on that. We also may just find some images work by accident.
It is a wonderful journey and I look forward to sharing my ideas and also looking at other work.
My art will be done in graphic programs such as Photoshop and Painter. I may also put in some drawings and collages of my own created with real materials.
